The muskie is a rare fish. Catching one of these fish is special in itself, and the larger the muskie is - the greater the enjoyment. Unfortunately, the rarity of this fish that makes it such a rewarding catch also places an ethical obligation on all muskie fishermen to practice catch-and-release. Muskie are rare and a slow growing fish. Most muskie in the 45-inch-plus range are certainly over 10 years old and many can be approaching 20 years of age.

If we are to continue to grow this wonderful sport and have plenty of opportunity in the years and decades to come, it is essential that all muskie fishermen practice good muskie management techniques to ensure a healthy and growing muskie population.

The following pages will provide additional details and information on proper muskie management as well as additional information on the muskie species and range.
